Garad Saree – Traditional Bengali Drape!
Garad is a plain white or off-white silk saree with an un-ornamental coloured red border and stripped pallav that epitomizes traditional Bengali women. These sarees are very fine and traditionally woven in a strong silk fabric that is not dyed to retain the purity of the fabric – with a bold, red border to off-set the white body. Garad sarees plays a very important role in traditional rituals of Bengali community. They do have a sacred relevance and are worn extensively during festivals, ceremonies and special occasions; and is a must-have in all Bengali women’s wardrobe. I wore this saree during Durga Puja in traditional Bengali style and felt blessed.
