Sula Vineyard – Exquisite Indian Winery

 ???????????????????????????????

Have you ever wondered relaxing and sipping wine on a balcony with expansive view of the vineyard? Yes, it’s here in our own backyard and you will be surprised by the ambience of the place as well as the world class winery. Sula Vineyards is an Indian winery located in Nasik approximately 200 kms from Mumbai. Nasik is known as the grape growing region of India but never used to grow wine grapes. It was Sula Wines that explored the opportunity of cultivating wine grapes and established the first winery in the region. Sula Vineyard is spread all over the Nasik region cultivating grapes for all type of wines. The vineyard also had a resort to live amid beautiful landscape and take a winery tour along with tasting varieties of wines produced at the winery in a taste room. It’s a perfect weekend gateway with vineyards, a winery tour, a tasting room, a balcony, garden, grape stomping, amphitheatre and restaurants adjacent to the main building. Even if you don’t want to spend a night at the resort but you can make a day trip to this vineyard.

It took us 3.5 hours to Sula Vineyard from Panvel. The highway is well maintained with picturesque landscapes all along the journey. Be cautious of not stepping on to the flyover which starts before entering Nasik, instead take the exit to Ambad MIDC and follow the trimbak road till the exit to final road for Sula. From there on follow the signboards for directions. You have to be very careful for the exit on highway otherwise you will end up reaching Nasik city as there is no exit in between. It is advisable to use GPS navigation for the route guidance which we did. After 7 kms we reached the countryside and it’s beautiful and close to nature with hillocks covered in green shrubs, trees fencing the barns, and villagers at a pond. We reached the Sula Vineyard at around 11:30 a.m. and the view of the vineyard was awesome with grape fields on both sides and the beautiful winery along with tasting unit in front. The place was very neat and clean brimming with fresh air and nature.

We reached the facility and it was very well maintained. The wine tasting room and souvenir shop are on the ground floor and restaurant and balcony on the first floor. The winery is on the backyard. The ambience of the place is very nice with barrels and wine bottles placed aesthetically. The wine bottle lights suspended from the ceiling was giving additional flavour to the ambience. We bought the tickets for wine tour and tasting from the reception at first floor. A guide took us for the tour and gave us brief history about the company and then took us through various process of wine making to procedure of bottling.

After completing the tour we went to the wine tasting room and believe us it was an amazing experience. We tasted six wines and the bartender explained every bit of each wine with exuberance. Now the time for leisure has come and we reached the balcony and helped ourselves relax with an excellent view of vineyard. We ordered some snacks and dindori wine and spent beautiful time together.

After sometime it was time for lunch and we headed towards the restaurant Little Italy and Soma. We ordered Indian food and liked it.

We roamed around the vicinity for some time and went on to see the grape vineyard as well. You can also go for stomping of grapes but we decided against it. We visited the souvenir shop and bought some wines from there. The shop is also very well designed with beautiful captions written on the wall.

We have visited Sula Vineyard twice i.e. once each during the monsoon and winters. Both the experiences were amazing and altogether different. During monsoon you can enjoy the beautiful landscapes and rains from its balcony but there are no grapes but you will see the grapes and can do stomping during winters preferably Jan to Mar. It is an amazing place and a perfect gateway for all. You don’t have to go out of India for an experience like this as this winery is of a great standard. Before planning your visit please check the dry day so that you will not get disappointed after reaching there.
